U.S. Air Force Selects Getac Rugged Notebook Computers

The U.S. Air Force has reportedly selected Getac rugged notebook computers as part of its Quarterly Enterprise Buy program.

As part of the QEB, NCS Technologies., a manufacturer of its own line of mission-specific computers, as well as some of Getac's products under license, will manufacture and provide Getac's B300 rugged notebook and V100 rugged convertible computers to the USAF at a significant discount.

Quality, performance and endurance, along with overall cost savings, were factors in the decision to select Getac products for the program.

Getac officials said that the company’s B300 and V100 rugged computers will be included in the QEB program beginning immediately and continue through the end of 2009.

"We are very excited about the Air Force's decision to include Getac's B300 rugged notebook and V100 rugged convertible computers in their QEB program," said Jim Rimay, president, Getac, Inc., in a statement.

Rimay said that it is clear that for a number of reasons that the USAF does not compromise on quality and the company is pleased with the confidence they placed in the products. He said that it is an honor to be regarded by the USAF as a solution for their mobile computing needs and reinforces the company’s continued commitment to providing the best products available to the customers.

Getac is a manufacturer of rugged computers that meet the demands of field-based applications.

"We are thrilled to win a significant portion of the Air Force's QEB," said An Nguyen, NCS' president, in a statement. “We look forward to our assembly lines humming with volumes of Getac products to meet the Air Force's needs."

Now in its fifth year, the QEB program has realized more than $167 million in IT cost savings for the Air Force, with $8 million in cost avoidance recorded during the first half of the 2008 fiscal year.
