UST Global, a company that provides IT services and solutions, will reportedly open a new services delivery center located in Chile. This announcement follows a meeting with Chilean President Michelle Bachelet at the Palacio de La Moneda. The government of Chile has committed to several million dollars in incentives towards the development and ongoing operations of the delivery center.
UST is currently finalizing preparation of facilities and hiring the staff required to meet its initial contracts.
The new location, scheduled to open in late 2009, will expand UST’s geographic footprint to nine countries and five continents and will serve UST customers globally as an offshore location, with cost-saving and quality service benefits to North American companies. UST Global has more than 6,000 employees operating on four continents.
Arun Subramony has been appointed as chief operating officer of the Chilean center, an independent legal entity operating as a business unit of UST. He is general manager, GenShare, Ltd., a joint venture between UST Global and The General Electric Co. His earlier responsibilities at UST included leading the Western Region, North America practice, global delivery and marketing functions, and to launch its Asia Pacific expansion. As a key member of the business planning and analysis function, he also developed multiple service offerings for Asian and North American markets.
“Chile provides a highly educated workforce with a literacy rate of 96 percent and fast growing proficiency in English,” Subramony said in a statement. “This, combined with the most advanced communications infrastructure in Latin America, time zone compatibility with North America and low operational cost, makes the location a natural choice for a new ‘nearshore’ IT services delivery center. This new venture demonstrates our continued trust in Chile’s stability and economic growth.”
Driving some of the work to Chile is expansion such as through new partnerships. Last month UST announced an agreement with

In addition to the frameworks, UST Global has extensive expertise in complex delivery processes, including globally distributed development.
