Great Lakes Computer Unveils Promotional Offer for VMware' vSphere 4.0

Great Lakes Computer, a value added reseller of IBM, HP, Cisco (News - Alert), Juniper and more, reportedly announced that it is offering free IBM HS22 BladeCenter blade servers with the purchase of VMware vSphere 4.0 along with one-year platinum support for two CPUs.

 

Great Lakes Computer said that it started this scheme to promote the launch of VMware's new virtualization product, vSphere 4.0, which recently replaced Virtual Infrastructure 3.5. 

 

According to VMware, its vSphere is a cloud operating system, which facilitates customers to bring the power of cloud computing to IT infrastructures. Built on virtualization platform, vSphere provides increased control over IT infrastructures while preserving the flexibility to choose any OS, application and hardware. 

 

With the help of vSphere, organizations of all sizes can achieve the benefits of cloud computing, while delivering the highest levels of application service agreements with the lowest total cost per application workload. This reduces capital as well as operating costs, says VMware.

 

This Vsphere BladeCenter promotional offer is available exclusively through Great Lakes Computer, and the combined package savings being offered are at discount levels usually reserved for only the largest IBM (News - Alert) enterprise customers, said the company.

 

The qualifying VMware vSphere SKUs for this promotional offer are VS4-ENT-C and VS4-ENT-P-SSS-C, while the eligible IBM BladeCenter server model is HS22 Blade Server. The free blade server comes with two quad core processors, 2GB of memory as well as 3 year warranty, but can be customized according to customer’s specific requirements, says company officials.

 

The IBM BladeCenter HS22 is a blade server that offers consolidated and high performance computing for running intense applications and virtualization technologies. It houses Intel (News - Alert) Xeon 5500 series processors in either dual or quad cores, and offers up to 96GB of memory using 12 DDR-3 VLP DIMM slots and PC3-10600 1333MHz performance for enhanced I/O capabilities.

 

According to IBM, its BladeCenter HS22 improves the economics of data center by facilitating them with: up to 11 times faster performance; 90 percent reduction in energy costs alone; up to 95 percent IT footprint reduction; up to 65 percent less in connectivity costs; and up to 84 percent fewer cables. Additionally, these Blade servers feature an open design, which is a good alternative to sprawling racks and overheated server rooms, company officials said.

 

IBM Brand Manager for Great Lakes Computer was quoted as saying; “In anticipation of our upcoming attendance at the 2009 VMworld show in San Francisco, we wanted to promote the Great Lakes Computer brand name on a national level, and bring our aggressive IBM blade server prices and VMware professional services capabilities to a broader customer base.”

 

According to Great Lakes Computer officials, all its products are backed by three-year replacement warranty free of charge.
