Recent news reports continue to remind us about the security issues that affect the U.S. electrical grid. In addition to vulnerabilities in the networks, it is even possible to launch cyber attacks by leveraging security gaps in common PC applications.
According to Mike Fumai, CEO of
Blue Ridge Networks, the company has been providing secure communications products and services to government and commercial clients for the past 12 years. Recently, vulnerabilities have been reported. The newly released AppGuard and EdgeGuard products ensure that customers’ desktops are safe from 0-day malware attacks and also that organizational security policies will be enforced.
The Secure Virtual Ethernet Service from Blue Ridge is a secure communications service that provides virtual private network connectivity to distributed enterprises and their business continuity sites over wired, wireless and satellite networks. It combines end-to-end coordinated ordering, around-the-clock end-user help desk and provisioning with a trouble alert and maintenance system.
The network consisting of BorderGuard hub appliances and RemoteLink distributed appliances will act like an Ethernet extension cord. It is compatible with Ethernet based equipment that is typically found in power generating facilities like PCs, Laptops, Servers, Routers and VoIP phones. The service will operate over any commercially available network that delivers DSL, Cable modem, cellular or T1 connections.
BorderGuard appliances will continue to operate even when under attack from DDoS. The appliances are also capable of providing audit data that shows the attack to the management platform.
Secure AppGuard from Blue Ridge is a "set and forget" solution. It blocks malware attacks without any configuration by the end-user and also protects computers by guarding the applications that run on them. Anti-virus/spyware products effectively stop old malware. When AppGuard is added, a computer's protection increases to more than 90 percent by stopping new malware.
Secure EdgeGuard from Blue Ridge is a policy-based security solution. It enforces security policies regardless of the PCs location. It also prevents the user from running unapproved software and quarantines the PC from the network until its anti-virus software or other programs are up-to-date. In addition, EdgeGuard elps custom policy assessment and enforcement scripting.
The technology employed by AppGuard and EdgeGuard will essentially place applications like Internet Explorer 'under guard' to prevent attackers from forcing applications to execute malicious code. Moreover, AppGuard and EdgeGuard stop unknown software that attempts to launch from "My Documents," "Desktop," additional hard drives, and "user space” and also prevents malware hidden on a USB device from attacking the computer it's plugged into.
