Retailers are always on the lookout to optimize their IT systems through applications that enhance product sales. SUSE Linux Enterprise Point of Service provides an operating platform for point of service / point of sale devices, in-store servers and the data center. It provides features such as centralized administration and deployment tools, small operating- system footprint images, and support for a variety of applications and hardware.
National Vision is looking to meet and exceed the needs of its business with plans to continue to add at least 40 new stores per year through the current down economy. The company opted to switch to SUSE Linux Enterprise for its mission-critical computing after experiencing performance issues with its existing UNIX-based point of service operating system.
“The effective use of IT solutions can mean the difference between 'sink or swim' for retailers, especially during challenging economic times,” said Justin Steinman, Vice President of Solution and Product Marketing at Novell. “SUSE Linux Enterprise Point of Service helps retailers respond quickly to changing market conditions. Moving to Linux will enable National Vision to keep their costs low so they can pass those savings on to their customers.”
National Vision can now offer customers with faster and better service with a more flexible and reliable Linux-based platform. The company can also better serve the changing needs of its business with this agreement.
