Fujitsu Releases New FlexFrame for Oracle with Oracle VM Support

Fujitsu, a provider of IT-based business solutions, has reportedly announced the new version of FlexFrame for Oracle (News - Alert) with integrated Oracle VM to help the deployment of dynamic infrastructure in enterprises and provide high availability across both physical and virtual servers.

FlexFrame for Oracle provides a pre-integrated IT infrastructure that dynamically assigns server resources to Oracle services based on Oracle database, Oracle application servers or any other Oracle application.

This platform lets all Oracle software, plus the operating system, reside on a central storage system and can be started on any server. In case a server fails, the Oracle service is automatically restarted on another server.

Fujitsu (News - Alert) said that the new FlexFrame for Oracle extends the solution's availability to customers “who need to start small and grow.” It is built with greater flexibility so as to scale dynamically with customers' Oracle installations and provide maximum levels of high availability.

The integration of the virtualization technology provides better resource utilization and higher granularity. Organizations can integrate Oracle databases running with Oracle applications as well as non-Oracle applications such as SAP (News - Alert) into FlexFrame for Oracle scenarios.

The virtual environment also provides customers with the flexibility to choose to implement a software or hardware disaster recovery architecture that works best for their specific project.

The new FlexFame for Oracle also comes with value-add features such as application awareness and priority management.

Application awareness provides monitoring capabilities for Oracle services and a live check with configurable restart/reboot options. This feature is integrated into standard data center management processes and connects to SNMP network management systems.

The new priority management feature introduces service priorities, failover and displacement rules resulting in increased service availability.

According to Fujitsu, FlexFrame for Oracle can reduce the total cost of ownership by up to 60 percent. It also helps organizations save up to 70 percent on energy compared to the energy costs of their traditional environments.

“The introduction of the new FlexFrame for Oracle release is the result of more than 15 years of collaboration between Fujitsu and Oracle,” said Rolf Strotmann, vice president enterprise servers and software at Fujitsu Technology Solutions (News - Alert), in a statement. “This solution consolidates Oracle environments to provide one infrastructure for all Oracle services.”

The integration with Oracle VM the platform offers high availability for both real and virtual servers, Strotmann said.

Fujitsu plans further enhancements to FlexFrame for Oracle with native support for the latest server and storage technologies. The new FlexFrame for Oracle, scheduled to be released later this year, will also feature Virtual IO Manager that allows customers to manage multiple storage systems in local area network and storage area network environments.

These solutions will further reduce complexity by introducing virtualized physical network addresses and makes it easier to reallocate resources between virtual machines, officials said.

Fujitsu recently announced that DTC communications, a manufacturer of wireless communications products, selected Fujitsu Network Communications’ (News - Alert) new NETSMART 1500 Hosted Element Management System service to manage and monitor that company’s 20-plus network elements.
