Addonics Unveils New Secure Hardware Solution

Addonics Technologies, a California-based provider of mobile storage products, has unveiled a new AES 256-bit full disk encryption hardware solution, so called “Addonics CipherChain,” a security solution for heterogeneous computing environment or for organizations with legacy systems.

Addonics CipherChain is a module that’s the size of a compact flash, and it can be quickly and easily installed into any system. The module comes with Cipher key, which is the size of a USB plug-in device. It helps in securing a system from – unauthorized access; shipping or transporting storage devices containing sensitive data, or for encrypting an entire RAID volume or a specific storage device within a RAID volume.

This hardware encryption solution can be used on personal computers, servers, rack mounted systems, data storage equipment and any computing equipment.

Operable under any Operating System, Addonics’ latest offering requires no software to run, no driver to install and no password to remember. The user of the solution will have just insert the correct Cipher key before powering on the system or the storage device. The operation and handling of the solution does not require any training as well, says company.

The CipherChain is compatible with any SATA I/II hard drive, SSD or a storage device with SATA interface. The solution features AES 256-bit encryption, which is considered the highest level of encryption, nowadays. Apart from all the information in the drive, even the boot sector and partition table are encrypted. A user can also raise the security level to increasingly complex level by simply daisy-chaining two or more CipherChains.

According to Addonics, its latest hard drive is encrypted and decrypted on the fly by the onboard crypto engine. The high performance crypto engine is NIST and CES (News - Alert) certified. The CPU resources are not utilized when actively connected and the performance of the drive or the system is not affected.

Providing a wide choice of mounting brackets to install the CipherChain into various systems, Addonics offers the module at a price of $79 (for model CCM35MK1), which also includes one CipherChain, a pair of Cipher keys and a mounting bracket for installing into a standard 3.5” drive bay.

The module is available through Addonics’ online store www.shopaddonics.com, many catalog companies, resellers, VARs and distributors, including Amazon.com (News - Alert), PC Connection, CDW, Buy.com, Provantage.com, Insight, and Ingram Micro.
