Data Robotics, Inc., has reportedly
achieved 100 percent growth in worldwide sales over the second quarter of 2008. The second quarter sales are 30 percent higher than the first quarter sales. The company attributed the growth in the sales to the demand for the data storage solutions, Drobo and DroboPro.
Released in April, DroboPro targets the small- and medium-sized business market. According to Brian Babineau, senior analyst at
Enterprise Strategy Group, the success of Data Robotics can be attributed to the firm’s work to devote more resources to business growth, and significantly less time and money to managing storage.
The first business class storage array that manages itself, DroboPro provides a simplified storage experience enhanced by advanced self-monitoring and self-healing functionality. It is these functionalities that enable small and medium businesses to maintain uptime in the face of constant data growth. DroboPro is built on Data Robotics’ BeyondRAID virtualized storage platform. It provides enterprise-level business continuity features such as protection against multiple concurrent drive failures and no-downtime capacity expansion with thin provisioning. In addition, it also eliminates the limitations of traditional RAID configurations.
Drobo utilizes the BeyondRAID storage
technology that protects data against a hard disk crash. It will hold up to four hard drives, is able to expand at any time and will support up to 16TB on a single volume as disk sizes increase. In addition, Drobo allows a user to purchase only as much or as little storage as he requires up front.
Data Robotics has added 240 new resellers in the second quarter of 2009. This growth is due to the highly incentivized partner program and unique product offerings. The customers of Data Robotics are from a range of vertical industries like biotechnology, education, engineering, healthcare, manufacturing and telecommunications.
According to Dr. Geoff Barrall, CEO and founder of Data Robotics, the customer demand for DroboPro has been three times the rate they originally forecasted. It is the unique ability of Data Robotics to take the complexity and high cost out of data storage that is increasing its demand.
Data Robotics develops automated storage products designed to ensure data is always protected, accessible and simple to manage. DroboPro has received several industry awards in the first half of 2009 like the 2009 Macworld "Best Consumer Storage" award for Drobo and Penton Media's Windows IT Pro (
