No Magic, OMG Collaborate on New UPDM Specification

No Magic, a global provider of integrated modeling software and services has announced that it is working with Object Management Group, also known as “OMG” to develop the next specification of the Unified Profile for DoDAF and MODAF, or “UPDM.”

UPDM is an OMG initiative to develop a modeling standard that supports both the U.S. Department of Defense Architecture Framework or, “DoDAF” and the U.K. Ministry of Defense Architecture Framework or, “MODAF.”

According to Richard Mark Soley, chairman and CEO, OMG, “Fully generating the UPDM specification from a model is a great achievement and we are grateful to No Magic for their thought leadership and contributions to this effort.”

The company’s so-called “Magic Draw” product is a core tool which defines the profile and creates the UPDM DMM (Domain Meta Model).

The offering supports the full life-cycle from the requirement and planning process through final testing with OMG standards-compliant software and offers services like training, consulting, custom applications and product customization for any part of the Magic Draw suite of tools.

Architects from No Magic play a crucial part in the central team which is working to align different AFs like DoDAF 2.0, NAF (NATO) and DnDAF (Canada). Team members are involved in all areas including specification development, architecture, and documentation for UPDM 1.0 and other upcoming releases.

Gary Duncanson, CEO of No Magic, Inc. pointed out that the defense industry is one of the many markets served by the company. The company’s experience in the UML space is utilized to help military software modelers obtain the tools they need to develop their software.

Also, commercial use of UPDM is experiencing fast growth especially among healthcare and banking industries.
