Napatech Intros Dual Speed Gigabit Adaptor

Napatech has introduced support for 1 Giga bits per second (Gbps) speeds in its existing 10 Gbps NT4E In-line and NT4E-STD In-line adapters, which can now deliver full line rate throughput at 1 Gbps with zero packet loss irrespective of the packet size.

“This is not just a question of introducing new, more advanced network adapters”, said Erik Norup, President of Napatech (News - Alert). “The NT4E and NT4E-STD change the rules of the game. It is no longer necessary to build proprietary hardware to achieve high performance. Cost-effective standard servers can be used with the NT4E and NT4E-STD providing the data processing horsepower and throughput to guarantee that all traffic can be analyzed at full line-rate, in real-time.”

Officials at the company claim that the two new dual speed adaptors can be used across most fiber Network appliances, which may include Intrusion (News - Alert) Prevention Systems (IPS) or WAN Optimization solutions, to build high delivery products based on cost-effective, standard server platforms.

The devices typically address the requirements of service providers that find themselves in a state of multiple transitions from traditional copper to 1 Gb Ethernet networks to 10 GbE, and cannot afford to simply dump existing infrastructure, because of the heightened demand for a potpourri of interlinked internet, broadband, and Wi-B technologies that has gone beyond the exponential because consumers, service providers and companies want simultaneous high definition video streaming, Unified Communications (News - Alert), Web 2.0 social networks, Infrastructural virtualization, web based Software as a Solution applications, Network Operations Center offloading, remote backup and super quick environments for cloud computing.

“We are witnessing a transition from 1 Gbps to 10 Gbps networks”, said Roy Illsley, Senior Research Analyst for Butler Group. “But this does not mean that 1 Gbps is no longer interesting; quite the contrary. There will still be a need for in-line network appliances that monitor, analyze and secure the 1 Gbps links into 10 Gbps networks. One can expect that these links will be fully utilized requiring full 1 Gbps line-rate performance. In this regard, Napatech’s 1 Gbps network adapters are highly relevant.”

Officials at the company claim that these two modified adaptors are best suited for OEM network appliance vendors in the network performance monitoring, network test, network security, financial trading and policy enforcement markets, and more so those that still require to retain full 1 Gbps throughput.

Napatech said that the devices provide time stamps, full line-rate reception and transmission, advanced protocol and flow recognition, filtering and intelligent distribution of traffic processing on up to 32 CPU cores, and a platform that supports integration with Linux, FreeBSD and Windows.
