Eaton (
News -
Alert) has announced it is the first power management company to offer protection software fully tested and compatible with VMware’s new ESXi 4.0 virtualization software.
This compatibility means that Eaton’s NetWatch 5.0 and Network Shutdown Module 3.20 allows virtual machines and host servers connected to an Eaton uninterruptible power supply (UPS) to be safely shut down when required - protecting the data integrity on the computer or server.
The next generation, operating system-independent hypervisor VMware ESXi, makes enterprise-grade virtualization easy to deploy for small and large enterprises. Eaton’s software has the ability to shut down multiple virtual machines sequentially in the event of an extended power outage. This allows data to be saved properly before the device is shut down and removed from power.
Hervé Tardy, vice president and general manager, Eaton Distributed Power Quality Business Unit said that their company has been on the forefront of maximizing compatibility of their protection software for the virtual environment.
Tardy pointed out the shutdown features of their software products that have raised the bar in user friendliness and intelligent management of VMware’s ESXi virtual machines. A combination of their software and their energy-efficient extended runtime UPSs help in advancing their customers’ green Information Technology (IT) initiatives and give IT and data center manager’s confidence that their virtual infrastructure is well protected.
Eaton’s officials inform that their connectivity software supports previous VMware products such as ESX, 3.0, 3.5 UT and U3 and their software makes it easy for IT administrators to manage their virtual environments.
In addition, the NetWatch 5.0 UPS connectivity software, which is part of Eaton’s PowerChain Management solutions and is a critical component of Eaton’s network shutdown solution, allows users to configure up to 255 network clients to monitor the activity of a single UPS. In addition, the solution acts as a network-monitoring tool through any network management card from Eaton.
