IBM Signs IT Services Agreement with Amul

 

 

Looking to transform the Information Technology landscape of its Milk Unions, Amul, India's largest food products marketing organization, has entered into an agreement with IBM. This agreement will help Amul support its accelerated growth plans, company officials said.

 

IBM (News - Alert) plans to build a state of the art Data Center backed by a Disaster Recovery Center for Amul. The company also plans to define the security policy and maintain and manage the entire technology and application landscape. Along with the necessary modules and systems that will enable Amul to increase its operational efficiencies, the project will also involve the implementation of SAP (News - Alert) Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) application.

 

According to the terms of the agreement, IBM will manage and operate IT environment of Amul with its SAP ERP on IBM technology. According to IBM, the SAP ERP technology from IBM provides benefits such as reduced time to implement; lesser capital and resource investments, ability to bring in additional users without capacity constraints, availability of around-the-clock upgrade expertise and opportunity to realize smaller, more frequent software releases providing useful features.

Even before, Amul has been at the forefront of deploying latest technologies in its everyday operations. The company had deployed technologies like Automatic Milk Collection System (AMCS) and also developed several innovative Business Processes unique to the country and known World-wise as 'Amul Pattern'.

 

In January of last year, IBM and SAP AG announced plans to deliver their first joint software product, codenamed "Atlantic," to integrate IBM Lotus Notes software with SAP Business Suite. It will be a "new style of applications that present information and data in the context of users familiar with the Lotus Notes desktop.
