Verizon (News - Alert) Business Achieves SAS 70 Type II Certificate for Asia-Pacific Data Centers

Verizon Business, a provider of communications and IT solutions, announced that it has completed its annual SAS (News - Alert) 70 Type II examination for the company's data centers in Sydney, Melbourne, Singapore and Hong Kong.

 

SAS 70, established by the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, is a widely recognized auditing standard for service organizations to demonstrate that they have adequate controls and processes in place. A SAS 70 examination indicates that an independent accounting and auditing firm has examined a service organization's control objectives and related activities.

 

“This certification emphasizes the unsurpassed combination of infrastructure, processes and people that we bring to bear in the delivery of IT and hosting solutions for our customers around the world,” said John Karabin, Verizon Business' (News - Alert) Asia-Pacific regional vice president for global services, in a statement. “With this industry-recognized audit, we are reinforcing our commitment to maintaining the highest standards of quality and performance to support our customers' business goals.”

 

The latest SAS 70 Type II certification follows the similar certifications achieved by Verizon Business' IP Application Hosting Centers (Smart Centers) in Germany, Japan, the U.S. and the U.K., and its 15 Premium Internet Data Centers in North America, Verizon Business officials said.

 

Ernst & Young LLP performed the yearly examinations. It reviewed control objectives and controls at the company's managed and Internet colocation data centers. Specific areas of the examination included access to facilities, logical access to systems, network services operations, control processes and procedures, and environmental safeguards.

 

Verizon Business’ Smart Centers enable customers to outsource the day-to-day management of their Web sites and IP-enabled business applications. The company also provides expert technical service and support round the clock to keep enterprise Web sites and business applications up and running in state-of-the-art facilities.

 

The company offers data center co-location services to customers that prefer to manage their own servers, data networking and voice equipment. Other services offered by the company are: remote backup and restore, messaging and collaboration, Akamai (News - Alert) services, IP application hosting, and remote IP application management.

 

Recently, Verizon Business was awarded  the 2009 North American Enterprise Telephony Equipment Implementation and Management Customer Value Enhancement Award by research firm Frost & Sullivan (News - Alert). According to officials, this award recognizes Verizon Business’ ability to expand its customer base through the creation of innovative managed IP telephony services.
