Centrify Intros Centrify Suite 2008 for Linux on IBM System z

Centrify Corporation has announced the introduction of its Centrify Suite 2008 for Linux on International Business Machines' (IBM) System z.
Officials at the company say the first Linux guest Operating System is SUSE Linux Enterprise Server for System z and its solution can effortlessly secure more than 200,000 Linux servers that a single mainframe can host by making use of their existing Active Directory infrastructure and user accounts.
Centrify says it also specializes in providing Microsoft (News - Alert) Active Directory-based, and identity, access management and auditing solutions for non-Microsoft platforms, and claims that Novell’s (the developer of SUSE Linux) response was positive about this latest application development.
"Novell (News - Alert) is pleased that Centrify Suite is now certified on SUSE Linux Enterprise Server for System z," said Kevin M. Pereau, Director, Independent Software Vendor Ecosystems at Novell. "In today's economy, customers are looking for freedom of choice and lower total cost of ownership and by certifying Centrify Suite on SUSE Linux Enterprise Server for System z, Centrify is offering its customers both."
The new solution helps IT network administrators to stitch together all other Linux, UNIX and Mac systems in an enterprise within Active Directory to provide centralized identity management, access control, privilege management and auditing of all non-Windows platforms, says official sources.
The Centrify Suite 2008 for Linux has gotten through the IBM (News - Alert) validation program, which requires a new product to meet compatibility and integration specifications established by IBM, and is now certified as, ‘Ready for Systems with Linux for System z servers,’ as well as being certified for SUSE Linux Enterprise Server for System z.
"Linux on IBM System z servers provides one of the most cost-effective, powerful, resilient platforms for running massive Linux workloads," says Corey Williams, Director of Product Management for Centrify. "Combined with Centrify Suite 2008, you can centrally control access and manage users on Linux on IBM System z and those on your other UNIX and Linux systems to provide a secure and compliant operating environment for your most critical business servers."
The Linux Developer Network (LDN) had earlier made an openSUSE Build Service interface available, reported TMCnet, for Linux developers to create packages for CentOS, Debian, Fedora, Mandriva, Red Hat (News - Alert) Enterprise Linux, Ubuntu, openSUSE and SUSELinux Enterprise.
The company claims that it new solution manages and ensures role-based prioritization for micro level control of user access and leverage levels on UNIX and Linux systems, enhances regulatory compliance initiatives, and centrally controls a heterogeneous computing environment.
