Virgin Mobile USA Launches Broadband2Go Wireless Internet Service

Virgin Mobile (News - Alert) USA has announced it extended the popularity of prepaid cell phone service to now also include online access with the introduction of Broadband2Go, a 3G nationwide wireless Internet service.

 

Through its operating company, Virgin Mobile USA, L.P., the company offers customers control, flexibility and choice through Virgin Mobile's Plans Without Annual Contracts, and coverage powered by the Nationwide Sprint (News - Alert) Network.

 

Broadband2Go operates over Sprint's EVDO network, offering users the choice of buying pay-as-you-go cards in 100MB ($10), 250MB ($20), 500MB ($40) and 1GB ($60) increments. All but the 100MB package expire after 30 days, with the cheapest offering needing to be used within 10 days.

 

In addition to removing the need for long term contracts with these cards, the company has started a Web site to help notify users on their card’s expiry date, to track data use and when to get more access.

 

Broadband2Go uses a Novatel Wireless (News - Alert) based MC760 Broadband2Go EVDO Rev.A USB modem. This device is claimed to be smallest EV-DO Rev. A modem and offers contract-free data from as little as $10.

 

The modem is currently compatible with desktop Windows PCs and with Mac/Linux availability coming soon. The MC760 features an internal, advanced dual band diversity antenna, as well as an optional external antenna for enhanced performance on the fringe areas of networks and in highly mobile environments. The offering also requires no activation fee and there are no roaming charges.
