ARRIS has announced that it will display its full suite of ARRIS Cable Modem Termination System (CMTS) broadband Data Over Cable Service Interface Specification (DOCSIS) access products with Upstream and Downstream channel bonding, voice and data services, Video On Demand, Addressable Advertising, and Access and optical Transport solutions at Japan Cable Show in Tokyo later this month.
The company claims that the Japanese telecom market is extremely competitive because each cable operator, telecommunications company and access provider is vying to provide the most spectrum, the highest speed and the best quality to their customers, and hence stand a good chance of leveraging the high demand in Japan.
An additional advantage company, officials say, is that ARRIS was the first vendor to have its downstream channel-bonded Wideband service deployed by Japanese cable operators and its 160 Mega bits per second Mbps download speed is now widely accepted in the islands nation.
On display will be its
ARRIS Connect, Communicate, Collaborate and Continue (C4)c CMTS, which is a small form factor, as TMCnet reported earlier, a DOCSIS 3.0 based chassis that includes an integrated Layer 3 edge routing capabilities and DOCSIS RF functionality in single carrier-grade system architecture.
Its high density module supports a minimum of 16 and a maximum of 80 downstreams, with a minimum of 12 and a maximum of 60 upstreams configurations, depending on service providers’ deliverables.
In addition, it will demonstrate
the advantages using native Variable Bit Rate in bonded channel Hybrid Fiber Coaxial (HFC) via a DOCSIS 3.0 end-to-end solution providing IPTV unicast services to personal computers and IP-based Set Top Boxes, and the ARRIS Fixed Mobility Convergence (News - Alert) solution that permits cable operators with Mobile Virtual Network Operations (MVNO) to offload all types of digital traffic to a broadband network thereby increasing MVNO margins.
The company’s ARRIS ConvergeMedia enables service providers overcome network traffic congestion and overload while meeting customer driven content demands such as Video on Demand that suit customers’ convenience.
The TMCnet report says that it provides technologies such as Session and Resource Management, Content and Asset Management, Configuration Management, Operations Monitoring and Data Reporting capabilities, and offers On Demand application support for new and legacy environments that include Metadata, Entitlement and Account Management head end applications, along with set-top box client applications.

Also on display will be the ARRIS D5 Universal Edge Quadrature Amplitude Modulation (QAM) which, as TMCnet reported, is a modular IP edge network device that delivers Video on Demand, Switched Digital Video and DOCSIS M-CMTS over HFC networks. It allows inexpensive set-top boxes, cable modems and IP Set-Top Boxes to coexist on the same HFC downstream. Operators can start with MPEG-2 or DVB-C digital video today and migrate to IP TV services in the future.
Company officials say that the ARRIS Converged Headend Platform with CORWave multi wavelength transmitter, optical elements and newly released RF over Glass Optical Network Units are designed to deliver very high speeds and broad spectrum.
