PhihongUSA Intros Gb PoE Extender

PhihongUSA announced that it has developed a single-port, Gigabit Power over Ethernet extender switch, the so-called “POE16S-1AF” (pictured below), which increases the standard 100 meter length of a 1000 Megabit per second, double-Twisted pair category 5 cable, also called 1000Base-T cable, to 200 meters and can still deliver the same high power and data speeds.

Officials say that the switch performs the same distance extending functions for 10Base-T cables, which deliver 10 Mbps over a 100m Twisted pair category 3 cable, and for 100Base-Tx cables, which deliver 100 Mbps over a 100m Twisted pair category 5 cable.

The solution is suitable, the company claims, for doubling the distance of cabling required to power and transmit dual direction data for covert operation cameras, wireless access points for wireless network, and access controllers.

The POE16S-1AF switch extender also reduces the total cost of infrastructural ownership since it eliminates costly power wiring and related equipment solutions, installations and regular preventive maintenance.

“The major benefit of Power-over-Ethernet is that it allows users to easily run power to locations that would otherwise require extensive wiring and high labor costs,” said Keith Hopwood, vice president of marketing for PhihongUSA (News - Alert). “This new single-port extender delivers the Ethernet at double the distance than was previously available, offering greater installation flexibility and increased savings.”

The POE16S-1AF works within a temperature range of 0° to 55° C and receives power from solutions that deliver IEEE802.3 at Layer 1 classification and also from other pre-standard Phihong (News - Alert) PoE Plus midspan solutions. The PoE voltage, says that company, is then boosted back up to 56V with full IEEE802.3af detection and disconnect.

The expansion of PoE applications, reported TMCnet, that has made apps like wireless multi-radio access points, PTZ security cameras, and IP phones with streaming video displays to consume more power, and the company claims that they have designed their solutions to cater the needs for these higher power requiring apps and theirs is also an ideal solution for widespread implementation due to its compliance, energy efficiency, and performance.
