FiberNet Selects Ekinops 360 Optical Transport System

FiberNet Telecom Group, Inc., a provider of complex interconnection services, has selected the Ekinops 360 multi-reach optical transport system for the deployment of 10 Gigabit Ethernet services.

Disclosing this, Ekinops (News - Alert) officials said that FiberNet will utilize the Ekinops 360, a carrier class optical transport platform for metro, regional, and long-haul networks, to deliver 10 Gigabit services in the New York/New Jersey region and in Los Angeles.

FiberNet cited density, reliability and ease of management as reasons for choosing the Ekinops 360 platform.

“We were looking for a high-density, reliable product for high-bandwidth 10 Gigabit services and we found that in the Ekinops 360,” said Ernie Hoffmann, senior vice president of engineering and operations for FiberNet Telecom Group (News - Alert), in a statement.

Hoffmann said that from the beginning, the Ekinops equipment has been easy to install, and its management system has been particularly user-friendly.

“Its reliability and ease of use has been great. We are now looking to Ekinops for Gigabit Ethernet and 2.5 Gigabit service aggregation as well,” he added.

The attractive cost of the Ekinops equipment was also a factor in FiberNet’s decision, noted Hoffmann.

He said that the volume of 10 Gigabit services has grown over the past year. For FiberNet to continue to meet the customers’ expectations, the company needed to provide world class service at a competitive price.

“The Ekinops 360 helps us achieve that goal,” said Hoffman (News - Alert).

Describing Ekinops 360, the company officials said that with its T-Chip “Transport on a Chip” technology foundation, the equipment packs its transport intelligence into a much smaller, more efficient design, reducing costs, footprint, ongoing power consumption, and manufacturing delivery times to service providers and enterprises.

“FiberNet chose the right partner in its search for a low-cost, reliable solution,” said Rob Adams (News - Alert), vice president of marketing for Ekinops.

Adams said that with the company’s T-Chip at the heart of all the equipment, the company has been able to provide industry leading economics, minimize its footprint, reduce ongoing costs of power and management and deliver solutions quickly to FiberNet and many other customers, allowing them to stay ahead of their competition.
Ekinops is a designer and supplier of next generation optical transport equipment for service providers and enterprise customers.
