Corsair Rolls Out 256GB Solid-State Drive

Corsair, a provider of high-performance computer and flash memory products, recently rolled out “Corsair Storage Solutions P256,”  a 256GB high-performance solid-state drive.

In general, a solid-state drive is a data storage device that uses solid-state memory to store persistent data and is similar to hard disk drive interface.

Leveraging specially selected Samsung MLC flash memory and a sophisticated Samsung (News - Alert) Controller integrated circuit, the Corsair Storage Solutions P256 is integrated with 128MB of super-fast cache memory and Native Command Queuing support for blistering, stutter-free performance.

NCQ is a technology used to increase performance of SATA hard disks under certain situations through optimization. This NCQ feature facilitates Corsair P256 users with read speeds of up to 220MB/sec and write speeds of up to 200MB/sec and also reduces the amount of unnecessary drive head movement resulting in improved performance, says company.

Corsair Storage Solutions P256’s 256GB memory capacity offers sufficient space for the most requirements, thereby making it ideal for advanced operating systems, multiple applications, and large music, photo and video collections.

According to Corsair, its new P256 is one of the most compatible solid-state drives available in the market today due to the extensive validation of the Samsung controller and flash memory technology in multiple original equipment manufacturer systems.

Designed using cutting-edge technology such as advanced controller and drive technologies, the P256 has the capability to deliver high performance, compatibility as well as capacity that is big enough to replace conventional storage solutions in a high-performance PC, says Corsair.

John Beekley, vice president of applications engineering at Corsair, said, “Using the P256 results in immediate and dramatic improvements in system startup and shutdown, game level loading, application startup, and many other everyday tasks. Additionally, the P256 is more durable and reliable than hard disk drives, and has been shown in the Corsair Labs to provide up to 25 percent longer battery life in portable computers.”

Backed by a two-year limited warranty, the Corsair Storage Solutions P256 SSD is available from company’s authorized distributors and resellers worldwide.
