Attachmate Announces Reflection X Advantage Version 2.0

Attachmate has announced a multiplatform X server that connects remote Windows, UNIX, Linux and Mac desktop users to graphical UNIX-based applications.

Attachmate Reflection X Advantage version 2.0 is enhanced with Open Graphics Library (OpenGL) and Secure Shell (SSH) support. The solution’s new architecture can optimize performance for high-latency and low-bandwidth networks.

Reflection X Advantage extends the life and reach of existing applications and servers. These capabilities help organizations align with green computing standards and cut IT costs. The solution is especially useful for organizations that want to consolidate data center assets through server virtualization and the elimination of replicated servers. Reflection X provides remote application access for users who are not co-located with their UNIX host system.

Sam Morris, product marketing manager at Attachmate, noted that the new version offers unparalleled support to remote and mobile users who need access to graphical UNIX applications. These clients can now experience improved performance and more freedom when using these applications in different locations.

As Reflection X drives server consolidation in the data center, it can result in significant cost savings for IT organizations.

Version 2.0 boasts a number of new enhancements and functionality including access to the Latest Linux Desktops; “Beyond-the-Building” Access, which allows organizations to deliver core assets to users around the globe; Project Continuity; and High-Level Security. The enhanced solution also includes the latest SSH and SSL/TLS encryption with a cryptographic module validated for FIPS 140-2. Attachmate informs that FIPS 140-2 is one of the U.S. government’s top security standards.

Klaus Eckert, Linux application developer at ProContour GmbH, finds Reflection X Advantage to be an invaluable tool. Eckert uses it to access his Linux desktop from a Windows PC on a daily basis.

"I’ve been really impressed with the product’s performance and multi-monitor support,” he said. “In addition, I can now securely connect to my Linux desktop with SSH."
