ACCESS Linux Platform mini Adopted for Mobile Device in Japan

ACCESS Linux Platform mini, a compact Linux platform for mobile and Internet-enabled devices, will be deployed in the G-navi (GN-01) portable navigation device. The GN-01 will be distributed by Tokyo-based Business Link Corp.

G-navi is the world’s first portable navigation device to support maps based on Scalable Vector Graphics (SVG). Ideal for hiking, camping and driving, G-navi has the ability to quickly render high-quality, easy-to-read maps using the latest MAPPLE Digital Map Data from Shobunsha Publications.

The compact ACCESS Linux Platform mini is designed for cost-efficient mobile and next-generation Internet-enabled devices with resource-constrained platform requirements. Due to its highly scalable and flexible nature, the platform provides applications that can support a variety of devices including low-end smartphones, portable navigation devices, and media players.

An Internet connection is established by a wireless LAN connection and ACCESS’ proven NetFront Browser.

Shanghai Novarobo Technology Co., Ltd. (Novarobo) was responsible for the development and commercialization of G-navi. Novarobo is a member of ACCESS Connect Ecosystem (ACE), ACCESS’ global partner program, and designs Linux-based platforms and SDKs for customers who want to develop home gateway, smartphone and portable navigation systems.

This is the first time that ACCESS Linux Platform mini has been adopted for a mobile device in Japan. The G-navi proposition is priced at 33,600 yen (including consumption tax) and is expected to be available in stores this month.

ACCESS CO., LTD. was in the news recently when it demonstrated an innovative mobile content delivery solution for mobile operators jointly-developed with SanDisk (News - Alert), a global supplier of flash storage cards.
