Tech Data U.S. begins its annual TechEDG Government and Education Conference in Washington, D.C.

Tech Data (News - Alert) Corporation, an IT products distributor, has started its annual TechEDG Government and Education Conference in Washington, D.C with nearly 125 IT resellers engaging industry experts and sharing best practices for selling technology to government agencies and educational institutions nationwide.
 
At the conference, participants will discuss trends and share strategies for capitalizing on an estimated $135 billion in technology spending in the government and education markets for 2009.
 
“Not only is public sector spending on technology expected to reach new heights this budgetary year, but there is an added wild card with the new economic stimulus package,” said Barb Miller, Tech Data’s vice president, Government, Technical and Integration Services.
 
The sessions will cover topics like, Growing Public Sector Business where Mike Humke, vice president of Public Sector Sales, Solution Partners Organization, HP, will share about public sector market, including what the stimulus package may hold for resellers and what technology solutions such as server and storage consolidation, virtualization and green IT are in demand today.
 
“From modernizing schools to improving our nation’s infrastructure to digitizing medical records, IT will play a crucial role in many of the projects funded by the stimulus bill. How to identify and pursue those opportunities is the challenge. We’ll explore the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act in-depth throughout the conference,” said Miller.
 
It will also include, Identifying Federal Opportunities, where Brian Haney, senior vice president, Member Services with research firm INPUT, will discuss the anticipated impact of the economic stimulus on IT spending by federal agencies. Identifying State and Local Opportunities will also be covered by Liza Lowery Massey, senior fellow with the Center for Digital Government, who will offer advice for targeting state, local and education technology spending.
 
Avoiding Public Sector Pitfalls, will also be talked about by Alex Hart, consultant and public sector IT expert, and will share tips on how IT resellers can prepare themselves for building a public sector business by partnering with the right vendors.
 
Credit Strategies will be discussed by  Scott Tillesen, Tech Data’s director, Credit,SMB Accounts, who will discuss the critical role sound financial strategy plays in the public sector, and explore all the technology financing options available to Tech Data customers.
 
Also, Tech Data supports resellers pursuing public sector IT spending with specialized services like Government Sales Team, Bid Desk Support, Business Development, Letters of Supply, Special Promotions to tracks government and education product promotions for resellers, Public Sector Financing, and Extended Hours to supports resellers during peak buying periods.
 
Last month Tech Data Corporation entered into an exclusive IT distribution agreement with Pelco, a producer of video surveillance equipment and security systems.
