Enpirion Intros Synchronous Buck Dc-Dc Converter

Enpirion has announced the launch of the EP53F8QI, its new 1500 mA (1.5 A) synchronous buck dc-dc converter with an integrated inductor.

Enpirion’s newest switch-mode dc-dc converter offers a small footprint, high efficiency, and a competitive price point to designers. The device delivers up to 1500 mA of continuous output current and up to 5.5 W of output power. The EP53F8QI is housed in a 3mm x 3mm x 1.1mm QFN package, including the integrated inductor.

Officials inform that the device has a total solution size of just 40 mm², and boasts a power density of 140 mW per mm². As the EP53F8QI can achieve up to 94 percent efficiency, it is the highest efficiency device of its size available in the market today.

The efficiency feature makes the product ideal for USB wireless datacards, as these devices need very high efficiency to meet the USB power specification, while maintaining a small footprint.

The Enpirion 1500 mA chips have been integrated with a number of USB wireless datacard platforms, as well as advanced feature set-top boxes and home gateways. The EP53F8QI can also be used in computing platforms, storage servers, RF, audio/video and multi-gigabit IO.

Dr. Ashraf Lotfi, CTO and founder of Enpirion said that designers no longer have to choose between footprint and efficiency. Enpirion’s new 1500 mA device delivers both, at a price point that enables penetration into very high volume markets.

The EP53F8QI is built on Enpirion’s proprietary high frequency CMOS and magnetics. The device integrates the control and protection circuitry with gate drive, power MOSFETS, compensation network and the power inductor. The low output ripple and low conducted and radiated noise is ensured by 4 MHz switching frequency and integrated inductor.

Enpirion is offering their newest switch-mode dc-dc converter at $1.36 for quantities of 10,000 parts.
