As a Precision Time Protocol (PTP) translator, the TimeProvider 500 enables network service providers and equipment manufacturers to accelerate the upgrade of their existing network infrastructure. This upgradation in turn enables them to accommodate next generation, packet-based timing and synchronization over Ethernet backhaul.
Gurdip Jande explained that their newly launched device will allow the network operators to immediately migrate from a traditional TDM backhaul infrastructure to Ethernet backhaul. This will dramatically reduce their operating costs without compromising quality of service.
Jande informed that the TimeProvider 500 is ready for immediate deployment to wireless carriers, and does not require a forklift upgrade to existing base station equipment. This results in lower Capex and Opex expenditures while increasing network bandwidth.
A standalone, compact device, the TimeProvider 500 has been successfully deployed in more than two dozen PTP lab trials. Symmetricom (

The TimeProvider 500 is very easy to implement, and also eliminates the need for a native, embedded PTP client solution in base stations and other end-point devices. This allows for rapid deployment of Ethernet backhaul with quick ROI.
Symmetricom is a global provider of precise time and frequency technologies that accelerate the deployment and enable the management of next generation networks. The company has also
announced the SyncServer S300/S350 SAASM NTP Network Time Server that meets the Global Positioning System (GPS) security requirements of the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD).
