Micro Focus, which provides enterprise application management, development and modernization solutions, has announced the latest version of its application development product suite Liant.
Liant 12, the new release, provides upgrades to Micro Focus development products including RM/COBOL, Xcentrisity and the RM/COBOL data tool Relativity.
Micro Focus’ Liant RM/COBOL product line is a set of integrated tools that enables organizations to “maintain a single set of source code while deploying applications on popular open platforms such as Unix and Windows NT.”
The enhancements to the Liant suite of products provide an easier path for Micro Focus customers to integrate, modernize and transform COBOL applications.
Micro Focus has improved the functionality of the product by increasing the capacity and efficiency for RM/COBOL identifiers and adding improved compatibility with Windows.
These enhancements enable customers to better preserve the value of existing application logic while also taking advantage of newer technologies and platforms, officials said.
The RM/COBOL data tool Relativity products enable customers to integrate core data from sophisticated Micro Focus or RM/COBOL applications into distributed client/server applications.
Micro Focus Xcentrisity allows customers to Web-enable existing COBOL-based applications. These COBOL applications can be made interoperable freely and easily with other applications that use the XML standard.
“We are deeply committed to investing in the further development of COBOL and creating new products for RM/COBOL users,” said Peter Anderton, product solutions director, Micro Focus.
“The integration of RM/COBOL into Micro Focus has paid dividends, enabling Micro Focus to deliver the easiest and most efficient route to COBOL modernization for our customers.”
Micro Focus, a member of the FTSE 250,
recently acquired Relativity Technologies, which provides Modernization Workbench, a solution for extracting business and technical intelligence from existing application portfolios.
With the acquisition, Micro Focus is positioned to lead the fast growing, highly fragmented application modernization market as well as expand its geographic reach, partner relationships and international customer base.
