Precept Health’s critical care information software system ICU Care has been selected for use by Malaysia’s largest hospital. Precept Health is a medical IT company based in Auckland. The company has entered into a major contract with the Malaysian Ministry of Health.

ICU Care is a unit management and point of care information system for the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). It enables clinicians to mange their operational and strategic information needs. It provides full electronic case management and is integrated with medical devices providing automatic charting and recording of patient vitals. The software also works with Microsoft (News - Alert) Healthcare Hospital Information System for enabling an integrated, seamless information environment for the hospital.

Precept Health and its partner including Microsoft Healthcare have been awarded the contract for providing a fully integrated hospital information system for Temerloh Hospital.

The hospital has 500 beds and is situated about east of Kuala Lumpur. According to the contract Precept Health’s advanced clinical software tools will be used by the hospital’s acute care departments including intensive care, cardiology and operating rooms.

Precept Health founder Tony Blomfield, said, “South East Asia is a key market for us, and with the help of the Foundation for Research, Science and Technology and New Zealand Trade and Enterprise, we are now beginning to develop a real presence there. We have worked hard to establish solid partnerships with Microsoft Healthcare and GC RRITS, as well as with the Malaysian Ministry of Health, which have all been key factors in being awarded this contract.”

Grant Fuller, New Zealand Trade Commissioner, said Percept Health’s growth in Malaysia was indicative of growing interest in IT solutions particularly health IT.

“The increasing engagement between New Zealand Health IT companies and Malaysian companies and public health officials is an excellent example of the broadening relationship between our two countries, particularly in the services sectors,” he said.

The company develops clinical software which will assist healthcare professionals in decision-making besides in efficient and effective unit administration. The Clinical Information Systems (CIS) are useful in several healthcare environments as in high demanding acute healthcare departments like cardiology, neurology and anesthesia.
