MaxxCat Intending to Rival Google Search Appliance

MaxxCat says its new enterprise level search appliances are designed to surpass the abilities of the Google (News - Alert) search appliances and claim its new products are multiple times faster than Google’s and offers unlimited lifetime use and a more efficient, faster and cost effective enterprise search.

MaxxCat Enterprise search appliance offers fully scalable, enterprise-level search solutions for organizations of all sizes.

MaxxCat says its enterprise search appliance, EX-5000, is over seven times faster than Google Search Appliance (GSA (News - Alert)) and the small business search appliance, the XB-250, and is 16 times faster than Google Mini. The products are claimed to overcome the poor performance and intrinsic limitations of Google search appliances.

The MaxxCat search appliance was developed with simplicity and speed in mind, and according to the company, it offers all sorts of bells and whistles such as clustering and mirroring, customizable rankings, scripts and real time edits, field-based indexing and remote support for diagnostics.

The MaxxCat EX-5000 offers unlimited document search capacity and can process 2200 queries or more per minute and can index search results at the rate of 1.28 GB per minute. Both EX-5000 and XB-250 are capable of searching more than 200 file formats and are constructed to produce customized query results.

MaxxCat has stated that the search appliances were created from the ground up and run on a special Linux platform. They use an extremely fast crypto algorithm to process queries. For example if a search is made on a million document collection, the kernel can dispatch and resolve a multi-term query spanning the entire collection in as little as 100 usec.

The company says its appliances are easy to install and will take only a few minutes to setup. They are incorporated with an open template architecture that enables users to easily customize the solutions to their liking with a few mouse clicks.

MaxxCat anticipates a wider launch of its search appliances in spring 2009.
