Dell, HP Rollout Energy Efficient Enterprise-class PCs Using Broadcom's TruManage Technology

Broadcom has stated that Dell (News - Alert) and HP have used its NetXtreme BCM5761 Gigabit Ethernet (GbE) controller to build a new set of efficient enterprise class PCs.

The company has stated that their GbE controller which is based on their TruManage technology will make these PCs deliver energy efficiency and cost effective client manageability.

Broadcom (News - Alert) Corporation deals in semiconductors for wired and wireless communications and their products enable the delivery of voice, video, data and multimedia to and throughout the home, the office and the mobile environment.

The company claims that the NetXtreme GbE controller is the industries first 65 nanometer (nm) single-chip Gigabit Ethernet (GbE) controller and can integrate DASH and PMCI Client Manageability Protocols via New TruManage Technology. In support of open client manageability protocols, the new controller features a centralized architecture that provides an advanced level of secure, remote offline manageability.

The company adds that these features can provide IT administrators with means to effectively and securely manage their desktop and mobile systems from anywhere in the world, at any time, regardless of the state of the system (OS-present, OS-absent or out-of- service) by using a common framework and tools.

Broadcom states that the GbE controller incorporates advanced power management features that enable enterprise- class PCs to be fully managed while maintaining compliance with the Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) Energy Star program.

Companies are usually forced to deploy a disparate set of tools and applications to manage PC systems around the world, in multi-vendor, distributed enterprise environments. The tools are mainly proprietary or specialized, and must be adapted specifically to each individual corporate enterprise resulting in an increased total cost of ownership (TCO) and a lack of efficiency and consistency when managing these PC systems. Broadcom claims that their solution offers a single set of tools to manage multi-vendor platforms, lowering cost and overhead while allowing IT professionals to focus on deploying new technologies and capabilities on their network.

"We are happy to work with Broadcom to bring this new level of standards-based manageability to our customers," said Darrel Ward, Director, Dell Product Group. "Broadcom and Dell share the vision of delivering feature-rich, standards-based management technology to the client via DASH. The NetXtreme 5761 Gigabit controller will help drive down support costs, reduce power consumption, and simplify a variety of management tasks for IT administrators."

Vinod Lakhani, Senior Director & General Manager for Broadcom's High-Speed Controller line of business has stated that the adoption of their GbE controller by PC OEM market leaders only validates Broadcom’s abilities in enabling and deploying open standards and energy-efficient solutions.
