Zarlink Expands its Synchronous Ethernet Portfolio

Zarlink Semiconductor (News - Alert) announced the expansion of its Synchronous Ethernet portfolio by adding highly integrated single-chip solutions which help manufacturers upgrade or design networking equipment for supporting Synchronous Ethernet.

Zarlink’s Synchronous Ethernet solutions enable carriers to cost effectively ensure end-to-end transmission of voice, video, data and mobile applications and services over IP-based wired and wireless networks. Zarlink solutions are fully integrated and standards-compliant and also support low jitter clocks for 1GbE and 10 GbE systems.

Manufacturers can easily upgrade line cards for supporting Synchronous Ethernet.
“As carriers aggressively migrate to lower cost packet networks, there is a growing demand for new timing technologies that preserve performance and quality for end-users,” said Jeremy Lewis, product line manager with Zarlink’s Timing and Synchronization group.

“Zarlink is a leading provider of timing solutions for equipment manufacturers worldwide. Our new Synchronous Ethernet technology delivers critical end-to-end network timing performance, with easy-to-adopt, standards-compliant solutions that help our customers reduce costs and quickly deliver products to market,” added Lewis.

Carriers have tested the Synchronous Ethernet solutions which have been used by equipment manufacturers and also demonstrated in reference designs by PHY vendors. Zarlink’s timing card and line card solutions have been widely adopted in access, wireless, router and metro Ethernet applications.

Synchronous Ethernet solutions portfolio of Zarlink offers optimum levels of integration low design costs and reduces time to market for manufacturers. The company’s single-chip Synchronous Ethernet solutions are also compliant with the International Telecommunications Union (ITU-T) Recommendation G.8262. It supports low jitter clocks for 1 GbE and 10 GbE PHYs. This is imperative for service providers planning for synchronization of packet networks.

Zarlink’s expanded Synchronous Ethernet portfolio includes two new devices for line card applications. The ZL30146 chip includes two configurable DPLLs for PDH/SONET/SDH and Ethernet network interface cards for both transmitting and receiving. The ZL30145 has one DPLL for clock synchronization and enables rate conversion and jitter attenuation compliant performance for Synchronous Ethernet, SDH and SONET equipment.
Zarlink Semiconductor offers semiconductor solutions which enable voice, enterprise, broadband and wireless communications. Zarlink specializes in voice and data networks, optoelectronics and ultra low-power communications.
