Alcan Cable Brings WIDESTRIPE Aluminum Type XHHW-2 Cable to the Market

Alcan Cable has introduced WIDESTRIPE XHHW-2 cable designed for wiring applications in residential, commercial and industrial construction requiring phase identification.

The new product allows easy phase identification with three wide color stripes embedded within the surface of the insulation. The material used in building these cables does not contain any harmful components such as lead and other heavy metals and is manufactured to minimize adverse environmental impacts.

WIDESTRIPE XHHW-2 cable weighs half as much as copper conductors of equal ampacity, making it lightweight for easy, safe lifting and handling during installation. Alcan Cable's WIDESTRIPE  XHHW-2 also has a higher maximum short-circuit temperature rating than THHN/THWN-2 insulation.

"The introduction of WIDESTRIPE(TM) XHHW-2 to the American market demonstrates our commitment to providing high quality, sustainable solutions that address our customers' specific market needs," said Howard H. Atkins, director of Marketing and Business Development at Alcan Cable.

He said that the WIDESTRIPE XHHW-2 cable is environmentally sound and provides excellent long-term performance.

Company’s most recent addition, STABILOY belongs to the same group of aluminium alloy building wire products as WIDESTRIPE, is a light weight and flexible building wire which demonstrates a secure and reliable wiring solution, produced using state of the art technology to manufacture a unique alloy formulated specifically for electrical feeder conductor applications in residential and commercial buildings.

Both STABILOY WIDESTRIPE cables are UL listed and approved for use in the United States in accordance with the recommendations of the National Electrical Code. The phase identification striping is available in a wide range of colors.
Company’s STABILOY aluminum alloy building wire has been installed in thousands of projects throughout North America for many years.
Headquartered in Atlanta, Georgia, Alcan Cable is a manufacturer of aluminum cable, rod and strip products and has seven manufacturing operations - six in North America.
Company’s newest manufacturing plant is currently under construction in the Tianjin Airport Industrial Park, with operations dedicated to aluminum alloy building wire scheduled to begin in early 2009.
