VirtenSys Adds Network Interface Cards to Portfolio of I/O Adapters

VirtenSys (News - Alert) has expanded its portfolio of supported I/O Adapters by including the Network Interface Cards (NICs) based on the Intel 82598 10 Gigabit Ethernet (10GbE) Controller. VirtenSys delivers PCI Express-based I/O Virtualization (IOV) Switches for data centers.

The VirtenSys IOV Switches virtualizes the NICs which are based on the Intel 82598 10 Gigabit Ethernet Controller among multiple physical servers requiring no changes to the servers, operating system, NIC (News - Alert) cards, or device drivers. Intel’s 10GE NIC cards are preferred in servers and storage systems used in enterprise data centers in multiple vertical segments.

VirtenSys I/O Virtualization Switches enhances I/O utilization by about 80 percent, increases throughput and also reduces I/O cost and power consumption significantly. Data center management becomes simplified as it dynamically allots sharing and migration of I/O resources among servers. This eliminates the need for physical re-configuration or human intervention, thereby reducing Operational Expense (OpEx).

“We are very delighted to make this additional capability available to our server and storage OEM customers,” said Ahmet Houssein, president and CEO of VirtenSys. “Intel’s (News - Alert) 10Gb Ethernet technology has been very successful in the market. We plan on supporting both the current generation of 10GE NICs as well as Intel’s future generation of Ethernet controllers and NICs.”

Darryl Rakestraw, director of customer marketing, Intel LAN Access Division explained that Intel’s 10GE NIC cards were most suitable for systems across multiple vertical segments. The Intel technology enables solutions like the VirtenSys I/O Virtualization Switches which provides server customers with options for more I/O flexibility in their rack server deployments.

VirtenSys strives to optimize its portfolio of supported interfaces and I/O Adapters. It is expected to launch its I/O Virtualization Switches that support Ethernet, Fiber Channel and SAS (News - Alert)/SATA I/O adapters soon. VirtenSys revealed that these products will be available in both rack-mount and blade server form-factors.

VirtenSys develops patented PCI Express-based I/O virtualization technologies required in servers and storage platforms. The company’s solutions help improve ways for the deployment of I/O infrastructure. They can be used in data centers and will enhance I/O utilization, cost, performance and manageability besides reducing power consumption.

The VirtenSys I/O Virtualization (IOV) products can be used without affecting the performance of existing servers and networks in the datacenters.
