Samsung to Use SRS Audio to Enhance Audio and Voice for Mobile Devices

SRS Labs has announced that Samsung Electronics will use its technologies to offer consumers a top-quality audio experience across Samsung's (News - Alert) mobile products, specifically multimedia and high-end mobile phones.
The company and Samsung already have a successful, strategic partnership across a wide variety of products including LCD TVs, digital cameras and mobile phones. The partnership aims to give consumers access to state-of-the-art audio and voice technologies.
Talking about the new multi-year, multi-technology licensing agreement, officials said the Samsung Mobile Communications Division can now use numerous SRS audio and voice technologies, including SRS Circle Surround Headphone, SRS WOW HD and SRS VIP+, in mobiles phones globally.
Wonsik Lee, vice president of Samsung's Mobile Communication Division said, "With the integration of SRS audio solutions, we are very confident that our customers will continue enjoying the premium audio experience that they have come to expect and demand from their mobile phones.”
As consumers began to see the mobile phone as more than just a communication device, the multimedia market is expanding. However, while downloadable video content is easily available, headphones limit the listening experience.
To combat the uncomfortable and lackluster feel of headphones, Samsung phones will use SRS technologies to provide the mobile video market with 5.1 surround sound over headphones. According to company sources, with superior audio, consumers will be better able to enjoy "on-the-go" multichannel video content.
Officials also said that music-only applications will now sound more natural as Samsung phones will provide customers with deep, rich bass and high frequency definition.
Samsung has also licensed SRS voice solutions to provide better audio to handset users. According to officials, consumers will be able to better discern what the caller is saying, particularly in noisy environments.
Other benefits listed include noise reduction, improved near end and far end communication, improved tonal quality and dynamic capabilities that adjust, in real-time, the amount of voice intelligibility processing and overall volume gain as needed.
Pointing out that today’s consumers expect not just crisp, clear phone conversation but an optimal audio experience, Allen Gharapetian, vice peesident of marketing for SRS Labs (News - Alert) said "We identified the huge influence of mobile video and multimedia applications in the mobile phone market and have developed robust suites of audio and voice solutions to serve these needs. Together with Samsung, we will offer mobile consumers a tremendous, powerful combination of mobile entertainment and communication."
Founded in 1993, SRS Labs is an innovator in audio signal processing for consumer electronics. Through partnerships with top global CE companies, semiconductor manufacturers and software partners, SRS audio, surround sound and voice processing technologies have been included in over one billion electronic products sold worldwide including HDTVs, mobile phones, portable media devices, PCs and automotive entertainment.
