Corning Incorporated announced a new
ClearCurve ultra-bendable multimode optical fiber suitable for data centers and enterprise networks. This is a laser-optimized multimode fiber which can withstand tight bends at or below 10 mm radius. This result in very less signal loss compared to traditional multimode fiber.
Using this new fiber, designers, installers and operators of enterprise networks like LANs, data centers and industrial networks can deploy optical fibers in more places. This helps them ensure that the package is easier to handle and install when compared to copper and it also offers greater bandwidth benefits.
When optical cables encounter tight bends in situations where there is scarcity of space in enterprise networks spaces like telecommunications closets and data center racks there is bound to be loss of signal and down time. ClearCurve multimode fiber’s bend performance reduces signal loss and allows better optical cable pathways, routing and installation.
ClearCurve 50-micron multimode fiber is compatible with the OM3 industry standard for high-bandwidth, laser-optimized multimode fibers besides the proposed OM4 standard. Laser-optimized multimode fibers are most suitable for financial institutions, hospitals, high-tech manufacturing firms and universities.

Multimode optical fibers allow many modes of light to pass through the fiber. The outer mode groups will be more sensitive to bends. To avoid this Corning’s new multimode optical fiber keeps these outer mode groups within the fiber core so as to maintain the integrity of the signal.
Corning has been instrumental in developing many fiber innovations like dispersion-shifted fibers, large effective area fibers, and ultra-low-loss fiber for long-haul and high-data rate transmission and the laser-optimized multimode fibers for enterprise networks; besides others. The ClearCurve OM3 multimode optical fiber is a new optical fiber innovation from the company.
Corning’s ClearCurve single-mode fiber helped telecommunications carriers in installing fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) networks especially in multi-dwelling units. The new ClearCurve multimode bend-insensitive optical fiber will be most suitable for enterprise networks where there are less space and installation problems.
