AMD, says it has enriched the ultra-thin notebooks by designing and releasing a new revolutionary platform. The new platform, previously codenamed “Yukon,” is based on a new Athlon Neo processor. It also makes use of
ATI RadeonTM X1250 integrated graphics and optional ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3410 discrete graphics2 that stated to bring true HD entertainment to a new category of stylish notebook PCs.
A technology company, AMD (

The platform can help bring down the costs of these notebooks and can assist in designing very thin and light OEM designs rich with entertainment features. Officials say the new platform will be revealed along with the HP Pavilion dv2 Entertainment Notebook PC ultra-thin notebook which is stated to have weighed less than four pounds and measure less than one inch in thickness.
“Before today, there was a compromise associated with selecting a highly portable notebook, forcing consumers to choose either the full PC experience of an ultraportable at a high price or the limited PC experience of a mini-notebook at a low price,” said Chris Cloran, corporate vice president, client division, AMD. “In introducing the AMD ultra-thin notebook platform, AMD enables balanced PC performance, including the option of advanced graphics and video for true HD entertainment, all in an affordable, ultra-thin notebook, bringing consumers uncompromised mobility."
AMD has stated that the AMD Platform for ultra-thin notebooks is designed to deliver the experience users expect from a PC plus true HD entertainment, all in a surprisingly affordable, amazingly thin notebook. It can enable system builders to provide their customers with true HD entertainment, within an ultra-portable form factor.
Officials claim that with the launch of this new platform PC makers of portable computer systems can offer a balance between portability and on-the-go performance. While users are stated to take full advantage of the features that are enabled by AMD's latest product, including a true High Definition entertainment experience.
According to the company, the new platform is capable of enabling smooth 1080p HD playback, but also of providing users with a robust casual gaming experience, enabled by the optional ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3410 Premium graphics.
“We believe there is a significant market opportunity that lies between the less-capable mini-notebook and higher-priced ultraportable notebook segments,” said Bob O’Donnell, program vice president, Clients and Displays, IDC (

Analysts see this new platform as an AMD alternative to the already available
Intel Atom platform which was designed specifically for low-power, Internet-capable computer systems, such as netbooks.
