Information Technology -JumpBox Launches 38 Virtual Appliances for Amazon EC2

Tempe, Arizona-based JumpBox has reportedly unveiled 38 Open Source applications to the Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2) service. The release eliminates the need for hardware in the deployment, configuration, and management of server applications.
In the words of Kimbro Staken, CEO, JumpBox, “Organizations have long sought to empower themselves with software that enhances productivity."
"JumpBox now offers the ability to do so without procuring hardware, or downloading any software at all," said Staken.
Catering to mid-sized organizations, JumpBox has a proven track record in providing pre-built, pre-configured software applications for virtual computing. The applications are offered through its annual subscription service JumpBox Open. Public Amazon Machine Images (AMI) for twelve JumpBox applications, including Ruby on Rails, Drupal and SugarCRM (News - Alert) are being offered free of cost. The whole range of 38 applications is available to plus and premium subscribers to JumpBox Open.
"The combination of JumpBox and EC2 signals a new era of agility and flexibility for virtualized organizations," says Staken. "Imagine enabling better customer service almost instantly with SugarCRM or deploying a Ruby on Rails application for testing in minutes. EC2 provides cost effective, scalable computing power; JumpBox provides the application packaged for instant deployment."
A JumpBox deploys in minutes locally, or hosted to major computing, virtualization, and cloud computing platforms. Some of the other features of a JumpBox include an intuitive user interface, a Web-based control panel for simplified management of system functions, and a backup system that enables data security and portability. Over 20,000 JumpBoxes have been deployed across the globe.
Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud is a commercial Web service that allows customers to rent virtual computers on which they can run their own computer applications. Earlier this month, TMCnet reported the launch of Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud in Europe.
