Cellular coverage in urban and suburban networks is improving. In this context, operators are looking for improved efficiency levels in order to enhance talk time. This is particularly significant in markets such as Japan and Korea, where the statistical probability profile of handset output power has shifted to levels lower than the standard profile set by the CDMA Development Group.
As a result, handsets tend to operate more often at lower power output levels. Improved efficiency at these lower power levels will increase talk time. To take advantage of these newer networks, multiple Asian mobile markets have set new talk time profile requirements.
Avago Technologies, a supplier of analog interface components for communications, industrial and consumer applications, announced that its fifth generation of CoolPAM technology-based power amplifiers comply with Asian mobile carriers’ new talk time requirements.
The two amplifiers include Avago’s ACPM-7822, which supports Japan CDMA band, and ACPM-7824, which supports CDMA cell band. The fifth generation of CoolPAM power amplifiers is designed to support high, mid and active-bypass power modes and addresses these requirements.
Avago’s ACPM-7822 and ACPM-7824 improve consecutive usage time for mobile handsets by the active bypass PA technology in CoolPAM. This fifth generation of CoolPAM improves power efficiency in the low output power range.

Alert), said Avago Technologies in a statement. The ability to operate at multiple power modes lowers the average current of CDMA transmitter usage and thus extends battery life by 30% over conventional power amplifiers.
Avago’s ACPM-7822 and -7824 are housed in a compact 4x4 mm package with one RF input port to simplify handset layout design. These amplifiers are targeted for the Japan and Asia Pacific CDMA handset markets, such as China, Korea and India. Avago’s ACPM-7351 is also based on the fifth generation of CoolPAM and is ideal for the Japan market because of its support of Band 0 and 6 (IMT2000) cellular bands.
