TPSA analyzes the public financial data of the listed companies quarterly, in order to understand the market trends and as well as performance in the technology services industry. The organization after analyzing recognizes the highest performing service businesses, which is based on several factors, including margin efficiency, a measure of the ability of companies to convert service margin dollars to operating income.

TPSA’ member companies represent a diverse group of market segments that include hardware and software products, systems integration, on-demand hosted applications, and value-added solutions.

The top five performing companies in ‘The Service 50’ - for the third quarter of 2008 include: Oracle, Tata Consultancy Services (News - Alert), Infosys, Cisco, and Satyam.

TPSA’s analysis results for the third quarter of 2008 indicated that technology service providers fared remarkably well and the margins increased by four percent for pure services companies. Further, the average operating income was also said to be up by three percent year-over-year, across all service sectors.

Thomas Lah, executive director of TPSA and author of the Service Visions blog, said, "Despite the beginning of a global downturn, companies in the Service 50 performed very well in Q3, especially the product oriented companies such as Cisco (News - Alert) and Oracle. On average, the service businesses for product companies are performing better than they did one year ago. This fact will be critical if product sales slow this coming year."
