Marshall School of Business Uses Xiotech Emprise 7000 SAN Solution

Xiotech Corporation announced that the University of California (USC) Marshall School of Business is upgrading to next generation storage by deploying Xiotech Emprise 7000 storage area network (SAN) solution.

 

The Emprise 7000 storage system is powered by patented Intelligent Storage Element (ISE) technology for increasing network performance and also improving storage management. The school envisions to become a 100 percent virtualized IT environment by transitioning to a virtual server infrastructure.

 

Los Angeles-based USC Marshall School of Business offers business education to more than 5,000 students in the graduate and undergraduate levels. It offers more than 12 programs of study and also a doctoral program. The school plans to have a storage system to improve its IT infrastructure over the following six years. The school is moving towards being 100 percent virtualized and it needs a storage system to scale easily with optimum performance and easy availability.

 

“When our IT environment is fully virtualized, we plan to have 110 virtual machines running on 6 servers. So, for us, a successful transition hinged on the ability to remove the I/O bottlenecks found in traditional storage systems,” said the USC Marshall School of Business’s Network Services Manager Dan Lewis. “With Emprise 7000 we’ll be able to eliminate those bottlenecks and expect to see a 200 percent increase in performance.”

USC Marshall School is improving the performance of its network infrastructure besides managing storage of hundreds of virtual machines as efficiently as possible. In order to make this task simple the company has planned to employ an automated storage management solution which will work in tandem with its virtual infrastructure.
