JDSU has released the new SmartClass E1/Datacom, a handheld field tester for the installation and commissioning of E1 and Datacom service. This new handheld tester consists of a large color screen, is lightweight, rugged and uses off-the-shelf “AA” batteries. It offers multiple test modes for E1 and Datacom signal analysis. The SmartClass testers have been designed to address all the requirements of network installers. The SmartClass E1/Datacom tester, which is ideal for both service provider and contractor field technicians, meets the requirements of mobile operators in the construction of E1 backhaul infrastructure. According to the vice president and general manager of the Communications Test and Measurement business segment in JDSU, “The SmartClass E1/Datacom responds to the service turn-up and troubleshooting challenges of both operators and contractors that require an easy-to-use tool for their field technicians.”
The interoperability with PC software feature of the SmartClass E1/Datacom enables results to be downloaded for report preparation. The SmartClass E1/Datacom also has a color graphical user interface that is available in multiple languages. Dual E1 ports for bi-directional monitoring and troubleshooting of E1 links as well as a Datacom port with a variety of optional test cables to suit customer requirements are the other features that have been included in the SmartClass E1/Datacom.
The SmartClass E1/Datacom provides advanced test applications such as MFC-R2 signaling test, VT-100 terminal emulation and remote control of the unit using a command line interface. It includes an event log and histogram for use in troubleshooting. The SmartClass E1/Datacom tester also supports G.073 Codirectional, Contradirectional and Centralized interface testing.
