Founded in 1999 Mellanox Technologies provides server, storage, and infrastructure original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) with semiconductor-based interconnect products. At the
SC08 show, it was expected to showcase in its booth the products of over 32 OEMs and independent software vendors (ISVs). Presentations included InfiniBand-connected products, complimentary software solutions as well as their overall advantages to the end-user.
“Mellanox 40 GB/s adapters and switch silicon were announced only a few months ago, and now today we are able to demonstrate the products in a mainstream blade server architecture,” said Eyal Waldman, chairman, president, and chief executive officer of Mellanox Technologies. “We are pleased to partner with Dell (

We believe that 40 GB/s InfiniBand delivers significant productivity benefits to enterprise and scientific computing users alike, especially in a robust system like the PowerEdge M1000e-series Blade Enclosure,” Waldman added.
While the shipment of Dell’s PowerEdge M1000e-series Blade Enclosures has already started, it features Mellanox’ 20GB/s double data rate (DDR) products which are said to be able to place the PowerEdge M1000e-series Blade Enclosure at the performance curve’s peak when it comes to other blade servers that are already available in the markets.
However, the demonstration of the Mellanox 40Gb/s quad data rate (QDR) products have been said to show the vital role that the boost will play in the input/output (I/O) performance of enterprises and data centers. The demonstration also displayed the M1000e-series system midplane’s ability to further leverage such kind of performance upgrades.
“Dell continually strives to expand the performance envelope for its server and blade server products, and Mellanox solutions now enable us to demonstrate the first blade server system with 40Gb/s InfiniBand interconnect,” said Kevin Kettler, chief technical officer at Dell Inc. “By doubling the I/O bandwidth of our blade systems, we believe we can significantly improve application performance and productivity in enterprise and high-performance data centers,” Kettler added.
