Mitrionics, Xilinx and Nallatech Offer Hybrid Computing Development System

Mitrionics, Inc. will be working with Xilinx and Nallatech for supporting the Mitrion Virtual Processor and the Mitrion Software Acceleration Platform on Xilinx (News - Alert) FPGA-based Nallatech FSB-FPGA modules for Intel Xeon 7300 quad socket server platforms.

Nallatech designs and manufactures accelerated FPGA computing solutions and rugged embedded computing platforms.

The system will be a Hybrid Computing Development System including a package of hardware, software and tools. A license for the Mitrion Virtual Processor (News - Alert) (MVP) is also added besides the Mitrion Software Development Kit with parallel programming language and working example code.

“A tightly coupled, high bandwidth, low latency, embedded FPGA-CPU hybrid platform with shared system memory is very attractive for computationally intensive algorithms where throughput and power are concerns,” said Ivo Bolsens, CTO, Xilinx. “The Mitrionics development system makes this exciting technology much more accessible to the development community.”

Mike Calise, executive vice president and general manager for Mitrionics, Inc. pointed out that Mitrionics and Xilinx have worked together for years achieving technical advancements. Their technologies are enabling Xilinx Virtex-5 FPGAs to be delivered on a much broader scale through Nallatech’s highly configurable in-socket FSB-FPGA modules. This is suitable for Intel’s (News - Alert) top-of-the-line quad socket server platform, said Calise.

Customers and third party independent software vendors (ISVs) are showing interest in the Intel Xeon FSB-FPGA accelerator modules from Nallatech said its Founder and President, Allan Cantle.

“The tight integration between the Xilinx Virtex-5 FPGA and the Intel Xeon processors, combined with the Mitrionics’ MVP provides customers with a compelling platform that can be used to dramatically accelerate their applications,” explained Cantle.

Nallatech’s FSB-FPGA module family for the Intel Xeon 7300 MP platform offers flexible options to tune system resources according to application requirements. This brings together 1 to 3 separate FSB-FPGA modules per system with 8GB/sec of peak bandwidth each, 1 to 4 high-density Virtex-5 FPGAs with local SRAM memory per module. The ability to cable high-speed serial interfaces directly into a module and up to 256GB of system memory is also included.
Mitrionics Hybrid Computing Development Systems are most suitable for applications in industry, academics, government agencies, genome centers, data services providers, and independent software vendors (ISVs). Users are generally interested in exploring the benefits of breakthrough hybrid computing architectures in practical workstation or server configurations.

A system with minimum two optimized compute processor types are used in applications within genome informatics, Internet data processing and Business process optimization.
The Mitrion Virtual Processor (MVP) and the Mitrion Software Acceleration Platform speed up computing applications by using the huge parallel and wide internal bandwidth of standard FPGA architectures. Mitrionics products and services offer a greener computing environment.
