Sandia National Laboratories has selected multiple
Foundry NetIron MLX-32 MPLS routers for 10 gigabit Ethernet (10GbE) density, performance and computing power. With this, the company looks to cut back on the energy consumed by these supercomputers.
A supercomputer is believed to be among the fastest in the world in terms of processing capacity. Every time a new invention is made in the field of computing, the bar is raised. Today, supercomputers are typically one-of-a-kind custom designs produced by major companies in this field.
Sandia’s supercomputer, Red Storm, is equipped with a high-performance input/output system, requiring dense and efficient routers to perform well. The NetIron MLX-32 routers provide features such as switching and routing capacity, data throughput, and up to 128 ports of line-rate 10GbE or 1536 ports of GbE connectivity. Sandia can also consolidate many chassis with the help of these routers.
The parallel processing capabilities of Red Storm have set many new records around the world. Since Red Storm can process a large amount data at a breathtaking speed, it required a router that could withstand this load. The NetIron MLX-32 can forward up to 7.68 terabits per second per chassis and can also switch and route the traffic to and from the supercomputers.

According to Foundry Network, its routers are known for their performance. In addition, NetIron MLX-32s provides features such as scalability future headroom, capacity, and reliability when compared to other offerings.
Foundry routers have been
deployed by various companies, including Microsoft. In October, the corporation deployed Foundry Networks' (

Alert) NetIron MLX Series 10 gigabit Ethernet (10GbE) IPv4/IPv6 MPLS routers for its Enterprise Engineering Center.
