NOVACAP Intros New Capacitors for Telecom and Computer Industries

NOVACAP has launched a new line of high-capacitance multilayer ceramic capacitors (MLCCs). When compared with alternative solutions available in the market, these MLCCs reportedly combine higher volumetric capacitance per given board area with lower equivalent series resistance (ESR).

NOVACAP supplies multilayer ceramic capacitor products to various markets such as aerospace, military, medical, telecommunications, computer and oil exploration. Products on offer from NOVACAP include commercial chip capacitors, certified safety capacitors, pulsed power capacitors, high temperature leaded capacitors and capacitor assemblies. According to Scott Sentz, director of marketing at NOVACAP, it is the company’s ability to offer value-added product processing and test screening provided to meet the design requirements of each client that differentiates NOVACAP from other suppliers.

The new X7R and X5R series provide an alternative to polarized tantalum and electrolytic capacitors due to their improved performance while utilizing less power. The series, which is compliant with environment friendly standards like RoHS, is priced at $0.01-$1.00 per unit. Value added processing, assembly, leading or high-reliability screening is not included with this price.

The new X7R and X5R series consists of high capacitance devices that are packaged in 0402 and 1812 case sizes. These devices which have a capacitance range of 100 pF to 100 µF are being used in digital circuits, power supply bypass capacitors, LCD modules, smoothing capacitors, input-output filters in DC-DC converters etc. The low ESR feature of the devices enable comparable filter circuit designs to be developed at one-third to one-fifth of the capacitance values. Parts are suitable for reflow soldering process.

The X7R and X5R series come with features such as the ability to provide unique, non-standard plating finishes and the ability to affix standard and custom lead frames to through thermal and mechanical stress reduction. In order to increase capacitance for a given board pad space, capacitors are allowed to be assembled and stacked without any restriction on height.

These products are also able to use a single pick and place step to put the high-capacitance devices into an array which consists of multiple components. Capacitor groups are screened by the series for different reliability MIL PRF levels in order to provide qualification testing for the SCD requirements provided by each client.
