Presidio Reports Strong Growth in Education Sector

Presidio Networked Solutions, a provider of professional and managed services for IT Lifecycle Solutions, has announced strong growth in its solutions and services to the education sector.

An increasing number of educators are now investing in key technology and infrastructure upgrades to support academic and administrative objectives, bring down overhead expenses and make room for future growth.

The company refers to a July 2008 report, “Education Snapshot: Learning with Technology,” by Compass Intelligence. The report says that IT spending is set to reach more than $56 billion by 2012. This represents an increase of more than 17.8 percent from a projected $47.7 billion in 2008.

According to the report, companies will spend the most on security, wireless networking and telecommunications. This year, telecom expenses have been predicted to account for nearly $16 billion of the IT spending, with wireless technology following closely at $13 billion and security accounting for another $9 billion.

Compass said that the fastest rate of growth is shown by the outsourced IT services industry and in the next four years it will overtake all other education IT-related expenditures. Educational institutions now want to modernize and upgrade infrastructure and this is in part due to the recent government mandates in the National Education Technology Plan.

Dave Hart, chief technology officer for Presidio Networked Solutions (News - Alert), noted that education IT departments on every level have begun to undertake major retooling efforts as they have recognized that they can gain overall security and mobility, streamline operations and reduce operating expenses by replacing outdated technology with future-ready solutions.

Presidio, a Cisco Gold partner, enjoyed success with recent implementation of these technologies at two major educational institutions, St. Lucie Public School District in Florida and Massachusetts-based Becker College. By creating a wireless learning environment for students and faculty at St. Lucie Public School District Presido has enabled teachers to readily adapt to students’ individual learning styles.

The company deployed a new data network across two separate campuses and a Cisco (News - Alert) voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) infrastructure for Becker College. The deployment
allowed Becker students, staff and faculty to communicate freely between campuses.
