SiTime Corporation announced the introduction of a new family of programmable spread spectrum clock oscillators which are the smallest in the industry. They offer a wide frequency range of operation and also low cycle to cycle jitter.
This product line includes the SiT9001 is very small and suitable for space constrained applications. The other product introduced as part of the product line is the SiT9002 which is a differential output programmable spread spectrum clock oscillator. Both the SiT9001 and the SiT9002 are provided with an embedded MEMS resonator as the clock reference. This does not require external components, clarified the company.
“Our new spread spectrum oscillators are drop-in replacements for standard oscillators, which will help our customers to eliminate expensive delays in development and bring their products to market faster,” said Piyush Sevalia, vice president of marketing at SiTime.
“These programmable MEMS-based oscillators enable users to reduce electro-magnetic interference (EMI) and pass environmental testing without the need to redesign their boards or use expensive metal enclosures,” said Sevalia.
The SiT9001 is available in a standard four-pad package which measures 2.5 x 2.0 mm. This size is very small when considering the spread spectrum oscillator industry. The device is available also in bigger, standard footprint surface-mount packages. These can replace existing oscillators without the need for board redesign which may be expensive.
The new solution offers high flexibility, working within a programmable frequency range of 1MHz to 200 MHz and under programmable operating voltages of 1.8V, 2.5V or 3.3V.
The cycle jitter is greatly reduced and is much less than 30 ps. This allows enough system timing margin which is compatible for several new applications.
The SiT9002 is suitable for networking and computing applications and also provides low voltage differential signaling (LVDS), low voltage positive emitter coupled logic (LVPECL) and current mode logic (CML) outputs.
The SiT9002 comes in a six pad package measuring 5.0 x 3.2 mm and 7.0 x 5.0 mm. These are compatible with industry-standard footprints. The device is programmable working within a frequency range of 10 MHz to 220 MHz and at operating voltages of 1.8V, 2.5V or 3.3V.
Both the devices employ SiTime’s MEMS technology for providing a robust and reliable solution thereby offering longer life to electronics devices. They are programmable allowing delivery samples in 24 to 48 hours and production quantities in two to three weeks. The SiT9001 is available in the market while the SiT9002 will be produced from next February.
SiTime specializes in the development of MEMS-based silicon timing solutions. The solutions developed by SiTime form part of latest electronic products like fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) equipment, computing devices, graphics cards, disk drives, mobile phones and high capacity SIM cards.
