Cairo, Egypt Leaps into Top Ten in Tholons' Global Outsourcing Cities

Cairo, Egypt, which is marketing itself as a key location for business process outsourcing, including contact center services, has landed at the seventh spot in Tholons’ recently released ‘Top 50 Emerging Global Outsourcing Cities’ for 2008, a leap from 11th in the 2007 rankings.

 

Ahead of Cairo are Cebu City, the Philippines; Shanghai and Beijing, China; Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam; Kraków, Poland; and Kolkata, India. Cairo ranked far ahead of the only other Middle Eastern and African cities: Johannesburg, at 20th, and Accra, Ghana, at 34th. 

 

In contrast, the highest listed emerging North American city is Toronto, Ontario, Canada, which ranked 22nd: it is joined only by San Antonio, Texas at 47th and Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada, at 48th. Toronto just joined the Top 50 while San Antonio had declined from 39th while Halifax had plummeted from the 35th spot.

 

Tholons assesses all candidate cities using different parameters with their relative weights, parameters assessed includes workforce quality and scale, costs, business catalyst (i.e. economic development, pro-business culture), infrastructure, risk, and quality of life.

 

Ossama Nazmi, vice president, marketing and business development, Xceed (News - Alert), which provides contact center services from Cairo, points outs that most of Tholons’ parameters are also considered Cairo’s strongest assets in attracting global companies to Egypt. Cairo is Egypt’s capital and the country’s largest city.

 

Cairo’s main strengths lie in the low cost base, the large supply of skilled multilingual agents and its geographical position central to Europe, the Middle East, and Africa, in addition to the economic and political stability Egypt currently enjoys.

 

“This progress is the product of the hard efforts exerted by Egypt and is considered a step further towards achieving the goal of becoming the global outsourcing destination of choice,” said Nazmi.
