Webwag Launches Mobile Widget Engine 2.0

Webwag is now offering version 2.0 of its Mobile Widget engine, intended to help converge the “regular” Web with the mobile Web.

The engine is now being offered on hundreds of mobile, Java-enabled phones, and will soon be available for Windows Mobile and BlackBerry (News - Alert) handsets as well.

Webwag is a publisher of mobile and Internet widget convergent solutions. The company focuses on helping users create a personalized home page with data feeds and Web 2.0 services. Its solutions make it possible to automatically synchronize data between mobile phones and other computers.

The new engine comes with tools t help mobile Web users select the services they are interested in. The most relevant widgets are then automatically added, based on the users’ pre-selected interest lists.

The company claims that the design team put in more effort than usual for the new design, intended to provide an iPhone (News - Alert)-like experience.

Two features are especially worth noting. One is “My Friends and My Community.” This allows users to select their nine favorite contacts and then call those people, or send them text messages or widgets, without needing to exit the Webwag Mobile interface.  Another feature provides location-based content; by selecting a city, users gain access to relevant content such as weather forecasts.

“With its new mobile version, Webwag is overthrowing received ideas,” said  Florent Pitoun, COO at Webwag, in a statement. “Most users can now have access to rich and customized mobile Internet. Widgets for the stock exchange, route descriptions, the weather forecast or Sudoku, they all offer an easy and fast experience and make the Webwag Mobile 2.0 (News - Alert) a unique application.”
