Australia-based BatteryCorp, a supplier of backup power solutions for the telecommunications industry, has announced major enhancements to its OMS - BatteryTrak service.
OMS-BatteryTrak is BatteryCorp’s patented technology platform used for analyzing, reporting and predicting battery state of health in telecom, UPS and industrial applications.
This technology has been used by telecom carriers since 2002.
Soon after Hurricane Katrina, the FCC (

Alert) formulated new rules and regulations aimed at improving emergency responder responsiveness and mitigating outages in the event of future natural disasters or emergencies. The new rules had more stress on the length of time that telecommunication providers must provide service utilizing backup power.
The new rules required telecommunications providers with 500,000 subscribers to provide 24 hours of emergency power backup for central offices and 8 hours for remote locations including cell sites.
Keeping this as the prime focus, BatteryCorp has updated its OMS BatteryTrak service. The updated version, as reported by the company, provides new automated reporting and analysis tools to assist companies in complying with FCC orders 07-107 and 07-177, which increases the length of time that telecommunications providers are required to maintain service on backup power.
"Although backup power is mandatory for telecommunications operators, OMS - BatteryTrak makes it easy and cost effective to meet FCC reporting requirements," said Steven Dworkin, chief executive officer at BatteryCorp.
"OMS - BatteryTrak utilizes Ohmic test data to analyze runtime, to identify sites that do not comply with FCC standards, and to create consolidated reports that help develop upgrade recommendations or validate exemptions," added Dworkin.
Dworkin also confirmed that BatteryTrak’s system not only predicts battery runtime at no additional cost over a simple preventive maintenance visit but at the same time also ensures that customers receive the added value of the analysis and reporting for FCC compliance.
According to Dworkin, it provides meaningful information to assist with FCC compliance.
