Actiontec Debuts Second Generation MegaPlug AV Powerline Networking Adapter

Actiontec Electronics (News - Alert) has announced its Next Gen MegaPlug AV Ethernet Adapter, which allows the customers to connect bandwidth-intensive multimedia devices throughout the home.

Founded in 1993, Sunnyvale-based Actiontec Electronics is well established in the industry by delivering broadband connectivity and broadband-powered solutions. The company's carrier-class products are easy to install, manage, and use.

The new adapter from Actiontec turns any electrical outlet into a high-speed Internet connection, instantly networking TiVO or other DVR devices, satellite receivers, BluRay Disc players, Playstation 3, XBOX 360, and any other Ethernet-enabled device at speeds up to 200 Mbps. It helps customers to utilize the full potential of broadband throughout the home. Up to 16 MegaPlug adapters can be added throughout the home.

"Home networks are becoming ubiquitous, but they still are not easy for the average consumer to understand. Configuration is not as simple as it should be. With more on-demand and streaming applications available around the entertainment center in your home, having a solid, reliable connection is key to being able to enjoy your movies or games without network hiccups," said Pat Hurley, director of research at TeleChoice, and author of "Home Wireless Networking for Dummies."

The MegaPlug AV Ethernet Adapters are based on the latest HomePlug AV standard for high-speed powerline networking allowing the users to enjoy enriched content anywhere in the house.

The adapter comes with simple plug-and-play connections and push-button advanced security features to protect personal data and eliminate the risk of network hijacking. These adapters support all operating systems including Mac OS X Leopard and Windows Vista and are compatible with any wired or wireless broadband router or gateway, satellite or cable set top box or any device with Ethernet capability.

"Actiontec's 'push button' security solution makes security attainable for any user without relying on manuals, complicated configuration software or the 'techie' neighbor," added Hurley.

The Actiontec Next Gen MegaPlug AV Ethernet Adapter is available for $169.99 MSRP for the standard two-device set.
