NASA Goddard Space Flight Center is further expanding its relationship with ITT Corporation, a high-technology engineering and manufacturing company, by signing a Space Communications Network Services (SCNS) contract to perform telemetry, tracking and command services for near-Earth missions.
The total estimated maximum value of the contract is around $1.26 billion with a base period of performance of five years and three months, with two one-year option periods.
The ITT team involved in this contract consists of its partners CSC, LJT & Associates, The Boeing Company, ASRC Aerospace Corporation, Orbital Sciences (

Alert) Corporation, SaiTech, and Braxton Technologies.
ITT has been delivering engineering services for NASA’s near-Earth communications networks for more than 25 years and since 2003, the company has provided maintenance and operations support services for its Deep Space Network, an international network of antennas that supports interplanetary spacecraft missions.
Under the SCNS contract, ITT will support NASA's Space and Near Earth Networks, which provide most of the communications and tracking services for a wide range of Earth-orbiting spacecraft, including the International Space Station, the space shuttle, the Hubble Space Telescope and the Earth Observing System satellites.
"The ITT team is pleased to apply our broad range of engineering and management experience to provide NASA with comprehensive support for this cornerstone program," said Hank Driesse, president of ITT’s defense group. “This win allows us to leverage ITT’s combined near-Earth network and Deep Space Network experience, and draw from the integrated capabilities of two of our businesses to unlock tremendous value in support of NASA’s near-Earth missions.”
The contract will allow ITT to perform operation and maintenance of NASA's Space Network, which includes Tracking and Data Relay Satellites and associated ground systems in the United States and Guam.
Added to this, ITT will also perform operation and maintenance of NASA's Near Earth Network including satellite communication and tracking stations located around the world.
